Irish Language

Béim ar Ghaeilge

Tá an teanga an tabhachtach sa scoil. Tá an-bhéim ar theanga a cur i láthair go taitneamhach. Is rud nádúrtha é páistí a bheith ag éisteacht le Gaeilge i ngnáth caint na scoile i rith an lae. Déanann an scoil an iarracht dearcadh dearfach i leith na Gaeilge a chothú sa scoil. Glacann an scoil páirt i Seachtain na Gaeilge gach bliain.

At Annagh N.S. we feel that primary school plays a vital role in giving all children a positive attitude to Irish. It is taught with an emphasis on fun as the children effortlessly absorb the language through songs, poems, drama and simple language games. The staff encourages Irish as an informal means of communication throughout the day. All children enjoy learning another language. They have no difficulty picking it up because it fascinates them as another means of communication.

In April 2016 we received our Gaelbhratach-Irish Flag and became the first Clare Primary School to achieve this. The scheme promotes the use of the Irish language throughout the school. It also enhances the children’s ability to spontaneously use the Irish language they learn, to communicate with each other, within the school community and with the wider community outside school. This is a two year scheme where the children’s progress is assessed at the end of each school year. The children must attain a certain criteria as outlined by Gael Linn. At the end of our first year of this programme we were awarded a Teastas indicating that we were eligible to continue on with our second year of the programme.
